This medication is used to prevent asthma attacks and to provide continuous treatment of asthma symptoms. It also helps alleviate symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Patients can achieve significant improvements in respiratory health with consistent use.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older: Take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily. This medication should be given 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet (1 sachet or 1 film) at night, once daily. 10 mg orodispersible film: Place 10 mg on the tongue and let it dissolve, taken without water.

Precautions

This medication has been associated with severe neuropsychiatric events, so if you experience anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts while taking it, you should inform your doctor immediately. This drug contains the artificial sweetener aspartame; therefore, patients with certain genetic disorders such as phenylketonuria should limit their intake. Patients who have allergic reactions or hypersensitivity to any of the drug's components should not take this medication, and those with lactose intolerance should also exercise caution. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while on this medication. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you must consult with your doctor before taking this medication, and caution is advised for pediatric and elderly patients. In the event of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. Keep this medication out of reach of children, and avoid transferring it to other containers. During use, if asthma symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear, consult your doctor and do not discontinue the medication or change the dosage on your own.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), suicidal thoughts and behavior (including suicide), toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, angioedema, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucous membranes, thrombocytopenia, increased bleeding tendency, liver abnormalities (while jaundice-related symptoms are not specified, ALT and AST increases, cholestatic hepatitis, and hepatocellular liver damage are included), serious headache (severe neurological symptoms).
