  • difficulty in sputum expectoration
View approved original text

This medication is used for bronchial diseases with thick and viscous sputum, such as acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, asthma-like bronchitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, cystic fibrosis, and postoperative pulmonary complications in adults. It is also effective in children with acute and chronic bronchitis and cystic fibrosis. Additionally, it serves as an antidote in cases of acetaminophen overdose, safely improving symptoms. These effects promote respiratory health and aid in the treatment of poisoning.

Precautions

This medication is a glass ampule injection, so care must be taken to avoid mixing glass fragments when opening the container. Extra caution is advised when administering to children and the elderly. It should not be used in individuals with allergies to this medication or its components. Caution is also warranted in patients with bronchial asthma or impaired respiratory function, and treatment should be stopped immediately if adverse effects occur. It is advisable not to use it in newborns unless they have severe illnesses. During use, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, anorexia, and diarrhea may occur. Additionally, hypersensitivity reactions like urticaria, itching, rash, headache, tinnitus, and bronchospasm may occur rarely. Tachycardia or hypertension may also appear rarely, and very rarely severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis can occur. When used as an antidote, infusion of large doses may lead to symptoms similar to hypersensitivity reactions, prompting immediate discontinuation if symptoms arise. During use, mucus secretions may increase, so patient condition should be closely monitored, and appropriate measures such as mechanical suction or position changes should be taken if necessary. When administered via intramuscular injection, deep injection is required. For use as an antidote, it is best to administer within 10 hours of overdose. Caution is necessary when using this medication in conjunction with certain other drugs due to potential physicochemical reactions. Safety during pregnancy has not been established, so it should only be used if absolutely necessary. Breastfeeding women should use it cautiously, as it may be excreted in breast milk. Elderly patients should be observed closely and administered carefully due to possible reduced physical function.
