This medicine helps to prevent and manage asthma continuously. It also alleviates symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, improving respiratory health. It is used for the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents over 15 years of age should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once a day. This medication can be taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. Patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet, pack, or unit at dinner, once daily.

Child dose

Children aged 6-14 years should chew 5 mg of montelukast once daily. Children aged 4-5 years should chew 4 mg of montelukast once daily. Children aged 6-14 years should take montelukast.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which is broken down in the body into phenylalanine. Therefore, it is advisable for patients with the hereditary condition phenylketonuria not to take this medication. The acceptable daily intake of aspartame is limited to less than 40 mg per kg of body weight, so caution is required during use. Due to the lactose component contained in this medication, patients with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. This medication is not a treatment for acute asthma attacks, so appropriate emergency medication should be used when acute symptoms occur. Side effects such as fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, rash, nasal congestion, and cough may occur; consult a doctor if symptoms worsen. Particularly rare but serious symptoms such as systemic eosinophilia and vasculitis may occur, so if symptoms of eosinophilia or pulmonary symptoms worsen, immediate notification to medical personnel is necessary. Patients who have hypersensitivity reactions to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid these medications while taking this drug. This medication should only be administered during pregnancy when necessary, and breastfeeding individuals should be cautioned. Children and the elderly can also take it; however, dosage and administration methods should be adjusted according to age, and safety has not been established in infants under 6 months. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so it is important to receive general treatment, such as removing the medication from the gastrointestinal tract. This medication is sensitive to light, so it is advisable to open it just before taking it and consume it immediately. Store in a place out of reach of children, and do not transfer to another container, which helps maintain the safety and quality of the drug. This medication should be taken continuously as directed by the physician, even when there are no symptoms of asthma or allergic rhinitis, as it helps to prevent symptoms. If neuropsychiatric symptoms occur during treatment, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary.
