This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it lowers the possibility of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary artery disease and patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it decreases the risks of recurrent myocardial infarction, stroke, the need for vascular intervention, heart failure hospitalization, and angina in patients who already have heart diseases. Moreover, it aids in lipid improvement by reducing total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with hyperlipidemia. It is also used for cholesterol control in specific types of hyperlipidemia that do not respond effectively to diet, as well as in some pediatric patients. Therefore, this drug is used for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and for the improvement of hyperlipidemia.
