Prevention and treatment of malabsorption (vitamin D deficiency)
This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in adults at high risk of vitamin D deficiency due to malabsorption.
Administer 300,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection. Do not exceed an annual total dose of 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.
This medication contains vitamin D, so when taking other medications or fortified foods containing vitamin D, it is essential to check the total vitamin D content. If the calcium level in the blood becomes too high or the amount of calcium excreted in the urine exceeds the normal limits, discontinue the use of this medication. In cases of high calcium intake, regular monitoring of blood and urine calcium levels is crucial. This medication should not be used in particular patients, such as those with an allergy to this medication, those with high blood calcium levels, those with kidney stones or poor kidney function, and in pregnant or nursing women. While taking this medication, various side effects may occur, including headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, thirst, frequent urination, increased blood pressure, and kidney problems; consult a doctor if any abnormal symptoms arise. When administering this medication to patients with vitamin D deficiency, it is vital to regularly monitor blood vitamin D levels to prevent overdose. Patients with impaired kidney function, elderly patients, and those taking specific medications should regularly undergo kidney function tests, and dose adjustments or discontinuation may be necessary. This medication can interact with other drugs, so patients taking anticonvulsants, diuretics, cardiac glycosides, antacids, or warfarin must inform their healthcare provider and exercise caution. Excessive vitamin D intake during pregnancy can be harmful to the fetus, so this medication is contraindicated for pregnant and nursing women. The safety of this medication in children has not yet been adequately confirmed, so use in pediatric patients should be approached with caution. In case of overdose, stop taking this medication, reduce calcium intake, and increase fluid intake if necessary; treatment to promote diuresis may be recommended. Do not mix this medication with other drugs; use it as soon as possible after opening the ampoule, and dispose of any leftover medication. Store this medication in a tightly sealed container away from direct light, maintaining a storage temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
