Lipid improvement through cholesterol reduction and HDL increase in hypercholesterolemia (familial homozygous, primary) and dyslipidemia.
This medication is used to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while raising good cholesterol HDL cholesterol levels. It is also administered as an adjunctive therapy when other lipid-lowering treatments are ineffective in patients with familial homozygous hypercholesterolemia. This medication should be used in conjunction with a diet and is administered considering the patient's other health conditions or risk factors. Such therapy helps to improve blood lipid levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Thus, it is effectively used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.
This medication is taken once daily regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, a dose range of 10/10mg to 10/80mg per day is administered, with an initial dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg recommended. If a significant reduction in LDL cholesterol is required, an initial dose of 10/40mg is recommended. Blood lipid levels should be checked with intervals of more than two weeks after starting or adjusting the dosage.
This medication can cause rhabdomyolysis, a rare side effect that may affect muscles and can lead to kidney problems. Therefore, if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, you should consult a doctor immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to the active or inactive ingredients, patients with severely impaired liver function, patients with muscle diseases, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, breastfeeding women, patients currently taking specific antiviral medications, and patients with genetic metabolic disorders, such as lactose intolerance. Patients with a history of liver disease or alcoholism, patients with impaired kidney function, patients with hypothyroidism, patients with muscle diseases or family history of muscle issues, and elderly patients who are at higher risk for muscle-related side effects should use this medication cautiously. During the course of treatment with this medication, regular checks of liver function and muscle condition should be conducted, and if symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, or fever occur, notify your physician immediately. Particularly, if muscle enzyme levels increase to more than five times the normal upper limit, treatment should be discontinued. This medication can interact with several drugs, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist and monitor closely. In particular, the risk of muscle-related side effects may increase when used in conjunction with specific antibiotics, antiviral agents, immunosuppressants, fibrates, niacin, etc. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception while on it. Safety in children has not been established; therefore, it is not recommended. Elderly patients are at higher risk for muscle-related side effects and should take it carefully, but no special dose adjustments are necessary. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, appropriate symptomatic treatment and supportive care may be necessary, and monitoring of liver function and muscle enzyme levels is required. Keep this medication out of the reach of children, and do not transfer to another container.
