This medication is used to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while raising good cholesterol HDL cholesterol levels. It is also administered as an adjunctive therapy when other lipid-lowering treatments are ineffective in patients with familial homozygous hypercholesterolemia. This medication should be used in conjunction with a diet and is administered considering the patient's other health conditions or risk factors. Such therapy helps to improve blood lipid levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Thus, it is effectively used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This medication can cause rhabdomyolysis, a rare side effect that may affect muscles and can lead to kidney problems. Therefore, if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, you should consult a doctor immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to the active or inactive ingredients, patients with severely impaired liver function, patients with muscle diseases, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, breastfeeding women, patients currently taking specific antiviral medications, and patients with genetic metabolic disorders, such as lactose intolerance. Patients with a history of liver disease or alcoholism, patients with impaired kidney function, patients with hypothyroidism, patients with muscle diseases or family history of muscle issues, and elderly patients who are at higher risk for muscle-related side effects should use this medication cautiously. During the course of treatment with this medication, regular checks of liver function and muscle condition should be conducted, and if symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, or fever occur, notify your physician immediately. Particularly, if muscle enzyme levels increase to more than five times the normal upper limit, treatment should be discontinued. This medication can interact with several drugs, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist and monitor closely.
