Treatment of respiratory, otorhinolaryngologic, and skin and soft-tissue infections; genitourinary, intestinal, and eye infections; combination therapy for leprosy
This medication is effective against a variety of bacteria including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is used to treat complex skin and soft tissue infections, acute and chronic otitis media, and acute and chronic sinusitis. It is also effective for acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease including community-acquired pneumonia and chronic bronchitis. It is suitable for treating urinary tract infections, bacterial prostatitis, and intrauterine infections. This medication is used for infections around the eyes and corneal ulcers, and is particularly prescribed when there are no other treatment options. This medication should be used cautiously considering the potential for serious adverse reactions, and it is effective in treating various bacterial infections.
The usual adult dose is 300~600 mg of ofloxacin daily, divided into 2~3 doses. For Hansen's disease, take 400~600 mg of this medicine daily, divided into 2~3 doses. In principle, use in combination with other anti-Hansen's disease drugs. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to age and symptoms.
This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat specific bacterial infections. While taking this medication, serious side effects such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system effects, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis may occur, so caution is advised. Gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur, and patients should inform their doctor if these symptoms arise. Blood system abnormalities, neurological and psychiatric effects (insomnia, dizziness, hallucinations, etc.), skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), musculoskeletal problems (myalgia, muscle weakness, etc.) have also been reported, so vigilance is necessary. Cardiovascular side effects may include changes in blood pressure, palpitations, and arrhythmias, so immediate medical attention should be sought for any abnormal symptoms. Diabetic patients should monitor their blood sugar levels carefully, as changes may occur while taking this medication. This medication may interact with certain drugs (anticoagulants, some anti-inflammatory drugs, antacids, etc.), so patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist prior to use and exercise caution during concurrent use. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, breastfeeding women, and adolescents under 18 years of age, as well as patients with certain disease histories, should avoid using this medication.
