Treatment of folic acid deficiency and anemia (nutritional deficiency, pregnancy-related, etc.)
This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of folic acid deficiency. Additionally, it helps provide a supply when dietary intake is insufficient due to an increased demand for folic acid, especially in patients with wasting diseases, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. It is also effective for various types of anemia, excluding pernicious anemia, such as nutritional anemia, pregnancy-related anemia, pediatric anemia, and anemia caused by antiepileptic drug administration. Furthermore, it is used in the treatment of megaloblastic anemia related to alcoholism or liver diseases, playing a vital role in improving various anemias and folic acid deficiency states.
Tablet: For the treatment of folic acid deficiency and deficiencies caused by other medications, take 0.25 to 1 mg daily. For the prevention of folic acid deficiency and diseases with increased folic acid requirements, take 0.1 to 0.25 mg daily. Capsule: For the treatment of folic acid deficiency and deficiencies caused by other medications, take 1 mg daily.
Children over 24 months: For the treatment of folic acid deficiency and deficiencies caused by other medications, take 0.25 to 1 mg daily. For the prevention of folic acid deficiency and diseases with increased folic acid requirements, take 0.
This medication should not be taken by individuals who have allergic reactions to this drug or its ingredients. Patients with pernicious anemia or megaloblastic anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency should also avoid taking this medication. Since this drug contains lactose, individuals with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should refrain from using it. Patients receiving treatment from a doctor, especially those with pernicious anemia, must consult with a physician, dentist, or pharmacist before taking this medication. Notably, patients with pernicious anemia cannot improve neurological symptoms with this medication alone, and must use vitamin B12 supplements concurrently. In cases where the diagnosis is uncertain, improved blood conditions can interfere with diagnosis, requiring caution. Certain medications such as aminosalicylic acid, oral contraceptives, methotrexate, and trimethoprim may interact with this drug and should be discussed with a healthcare provider. Individuals taking phenytoin, an antiepileptic drug, should be aware that this medication may lower the blood concentration of phenytoin, potentially increasing the risk of seizures. Additionally, individuals using sulfasalazine or cholestyramine should consult their physician as absorption of this medication may be inhibited. If symptoms of allergy such as skin rash, itching, or breathing difficulties occur during the use of this medication, or if systemic malaise is noted, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. The same applies if unusual symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, swelling, or weight loss occur. High-dose usage may lead to central nervous system symptoms such as gastrointestinal disturbances, sleep changes, decreased concentration, hyperactivity, depression, confusion, and impaired judgment, so caution is required. This medication must be taken as prescribed, and when administering it to children, supervision by an adult is necessary. If symptoms have not improved or have worsened after one month of use, consult a physician or pharmacist.
