This medication is used for the treatment of recurrent or persistent acute otitis media and acute sinusitis in children. It is especially suitable for children under the age of 2 who have had experiences taking antibiotics for these conditions within the last 3 months, or for children attending daycare. This medication is effective against the main causal bacteria including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (including beta-lactamase producing strains), and Moraxella catarrhalis (including beta-lactamase producing strains). It helps safely and effectively treat ear infections and sinusitis in children.

How to take

Precautions

This medication is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be administered to patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillin or cephalosporins. Additionally, it should be used with caution in patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia due to a higher risk of rash. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice should avoid this medication, as symptoms may recur. This medication contains lactose and should not be given to patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic conditions. Patients with poor liver function or severe kidney impairment may have increased drug concentration, thus, dosing intervals should be adjusted and used with caution. Patients with allergic constitution or symptoms such as bronchial asthma, skin rashes should also use caution. Patients with gastrointestinal disorders accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea may not absorb the medication properly, requiring careful administration. This medication is generally well tolerated, but side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, skin rashes, and contact dermatitis may occur. Rarely, cases of pseudomembranous colitis, hepatitis, severe hypersensitivity reactions, hematologic abnormalities, kidney dysfunction, and central nervous system disorders have been reported, and if abnormal symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. To prevent antibiotic resistance, it is important to check sensitivity and administer only for the minimum necessary duration. In cases of history of hypersensitivity to penicillin, serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis may occur, so patients should be closely monitored after administration. Antibiotics are used solely for the treatment of bacterial infections and are ineffective against viral infections, which should be noted. During drug therapy, it is crucial to adhere to the prescribed dosage and administration method, and not to discontinue or skip doses arbitrarily. This medication should be avoided in early pregnancy and should be discussed with a physician during breastfeeding, as it can affect infants. Its safety has not been established in infants under 3 months of age. While taking the medication, it is advisable to regularly test liver and kidney functions, as well as blood conditions for any abnormalities. Additionally, there may be interactions with other medications, so any current medications should be communicated to healthcare professionals.
