Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It particularly lowers the risk of heart attacks or strokes in adult patients with a history of coronary heart disease, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and stroke, also reducing coronary mortality rates. Additionally, it is effective in treating hyperlipidemia, reducing cholesterol and triglycerides in various types of hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia patients, while increasing good cholesterol (HDL). It is also used in conjunction with diet for pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia who have a family history. Overall, this medication improves cardiovascular health and decreases the risk of vascular-related diseases.
1. For reduction of the risk of cardiovascular disease: 40 mg once daily of Simvastatin. 2. For treatment of hyperlipidemia: - Standard initial dosing: 20 mg taken once daily in the evening. - Patients with mild to moderate hypercholesterolemia may start at 10 mg. - 5-40 mg once daily in the evening, with dosage adjusted according to LDL cholesterol levels, therapeutic goals, and patient response.
For pediatric patients (10-17 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: - Recommended initial dose: 10 mg once daily in the evening - Recommended dosage range: 10-40 mg once daily - Recommended maximum dose:
This medication may cause muscle problems; therefore, if you experience muscle pain or weakness while taking it, consult your doctor immediately. There may be cases where this medication cannot be taken, so please inform your doctor if you have any allergies, severe liver disease, are pregnant or nursing, or are taking other specific medications. Those with poor liver function or high alcohol intake, decreased kidney function, or hypothyroidism should use this medication with caution. Elderly patients and women are at an increased risk of muscle disorders, so special care is required when taking this medication. This medication can affect liver function, so regular liver function tests should be performed, and if symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice occur, it should be stopped immediately. There are many drug interactions, so you must inform your healthcare provider about taking this medication when starting any new medications, especially not to be taken with strong specific antifungal agents, antibiotics, and immunosuppressants. Avoid grapefruit juice or large amounts of grapefruit as it may increase the risk of side effects from this medication. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should avoid taking this medication, and if pregnancy is confirmed during use, it should be stopped immediately. Nursing mothers should also discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medication, and it should not be used in children and patients under 10 years old. Increased blood sugar levels during treatment may increase the risk of diabetes, so those requiring blood sugar management should check their blood sugar levels regularly. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container.
