How to take

Adult dose

Once a week, take 1 tablet of this medication (70 mg/2800 IU or 70 mg/5600 IU) in the morning, at least 30 minutes before any food, drink, or other medications, with a sufficient amount of water. The appropriate dosage for most osteoporosis patients is 70 mg/5600 IU once a week. After taking the medication, do not lie down for at least 30 minutes and until eating the first meal. Administer the medication in the morning.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents (under 18 years) have not been established.

Precautions

This medication can irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, which may lead to esophageal issues such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosions. It should be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and patients should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. If symptoms such as issues with the esophagus, dysphagia, odynophagia, pain behind the chest, or heartburn occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. This medication is not prescribed for patients with esophageal motility disorders or those who cannot sit or stand for more than 30 minutes. Patients with allergies to any ingredients or those with hypocalcemia should also avoid this medication. During treatment, gastrointestinal side effects such as abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, diarrhea, and constipation may occur, and caution is advised. Neurological symptoms such as muscle or joint pain, headaches, dizziness, and taste disturbances have also been reported. Before dental surgery, consult a doctor due to the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw, and maintain good oral hygiene. This medication may interfere with the absorption of calcium supplements or antacids, and a gap of at least 30 minutes should be maintained between doses. Caution should also be taken with concurrent use of aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs as they may increase the risk of gastrointestinal irritation. During pregnancy, the risk to the fetus may exist; therefore, it should be taken only when necessary, and caution is needed for nursing mothers. It is not recommended for children or patients with severe renal impairment. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as hypocalcemia and gastrointestinal irritation may occur; consult a healthcare professional immediately. Understanding and adhering to the method of administration and precautions can ensure safe use.

Serious side effects

Hives, angioedema, severe allergic reactions, esophageal stricture, esophageal obstruction, esophageal perforation, severe esophageal adverse reactions, serious complications of gastric and duodenal ulcers, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, symptoms of hypocalcemia, peripheral edema, severe edema, osteonecrosis of the jaw, severe musculoskeletal pain, severe skin adverse reactions.

Mild side effects

Abdominal pain, nausea, dyspepsia, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, acid reflux, esophageal ulcer, vomiting, dysphagia, abdominal distension, gastritis, musculoskeletal (bone, muscle or joint) pain, muscle cramps, headache, dizziness, taste disturbance, esophagitis, flatulence, gastric ulcer, musculoskeletal pain, rash, itching, hair loss, rhinitis.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. Additionally, it is important to store it at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius and avoid direct sunlight to safely maintain the drug's effectiveness.
