Relief of symptoms of gastric ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease, and treatment of gastrointestinal ulcers caused by Helicobacter infection
This medication is used for the treatment of gastrointestinal ulcers such as gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It also helps relieve symptoms associated with erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is suitable for long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease and is used in combination with antibiotics for the treatment of gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori. It is effective in conditions of excessive gastric acid secretion such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, it is used for the treatment of gastrointestinal-related diseases and symptom improvement.
For gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer: 10 mg orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, it may be administered as 20 mg orally once daily. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If not treated, an additional 8 weeks of 10 mg or 20 mg may be administered 2 times a day orally. For relief of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease: 1 time daily.
This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to specific ingredients or benzimidazole derivatives. Also, patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics should be cautious when combining this medication. In particular, it should be avoided when used with certain heart-related medications or antiviral medications due to potential interactions that may pose risks. It is safer for pregnant women or nursing mothers not to use this medication. Patients with decreased liver function or the elderly may experience more severe side effects, so it should be used cautiously. This medication may cause allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, and urticaria, so if these symptoms occur, use should be stopped immediately. Changes in blood cell counts, liver function anomalies, and various side effects in the cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems have been reported, so regular testing is recommended. Neurological symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, and dizziness may occur, and rarely, severe neurological symptoms may also arise. Respiratory symptoms, musculoskeletal pain, and skin reactions have also been reported, warranting caution. This medication strongly suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may increase the risk of fractures, hypomagnesemia, and vitamin B12 absorption disorders with long-term use. There may be a slightly increased risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract, so consultation with healthcare professionals is advised if diarrhea persists. Caution should be taken as there is a risk of accidents due to drowsiness when driving or operating machinery. This medication can interact with several drugs, so especially when taking antibiotics, antivirals, anticoagulants, etc., it should be discussed with a doctor. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment and supportive measures according to symptoms are necessary. This medication should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing, and kept out of the reach of children. With long-term use, regular checks should be conducted to monitor for side effects, and healthcare professionals should be notified immediately of any unusual symptoms.
