Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
Amlodipine or Olmesartan Medoxomil is used for patients with essential hypertension and is utilized to enhance therapeutic effects when blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. These medications lower blood pressure by dilating blood vessels and reducing cardiovascular burden, thereby decreasing the risk of complications. As such, they assist in the management of essential hypertension and blood pressure control, contributing to the improvement of patient health.
This medication should be taken once daily, with one tablet regardless of meals, and it is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). The recommended dosing is as follows: - 5/20 mg: For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy with Amlodipine 5 mg or Olmesartan Medoxomil 20 mg. - 5/40 mg: For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by 5/20 mg.
The safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under the age of 18 have not been established.
This medication may cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimester of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medication should not be taken by those who are allergic to this drug or other drugs in a similar class, by those who are pregnant or nursing, by those suffering from severe liver diseases or aortic stenosis, by individuals experiencing biliary obstruction, those undergoing kidney dialysis, those in a state of shock, specific diabetic patients, and those with severe renal impairment. Individuals with reduced body fluids or sodium may experience hypotension when taking this drug; thus, careful monitoring of their condition is advised when starting therapy. There is a risk of sudden vasodilation and resultant rapid blood pressure drop, so patients with heart conditions such as aortic stenosis should exercise particular caution. Heart disease or heart failure patients may experience worsening symptoms upon taking this drug; thus, consultation with healthcare professionals is advised for careful usage. Patients with impaired kidney function should undergo regular testing, as this medication may affect kidney performance. Those with decreased liver function should use this medication cautiously, as its metabolism may be slowed. Various side effects may occur, including dizziness, headache, hypotension, cough, digestive disorders, rash, edema, and more. Patients should particularly monitor potassium levels, as they may increase; caution is needed when combining this drug with foods or medications high in potassium. This drug should not be taken during pregnancy, and if pregnancy is planned or confirmed, consultation with healthcare professionals is essential. If nursing, it is recommended to cease breastfeeding or to discontinue the medication, as it may be transferred in breast milk. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 18 years of age. Elderly patients should start at a low dose, considering potential decreases in liver, kidney, and heart function and other illnesses. Overdose may result in severe hypotension and vascular dilation, requiring prompt medical attention. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight and moisture, out of reach of children, and it is advised not to transfer it into another container.
