Treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, secondary infections in chronic respiratory diseases, etc.
This medication is effective against a variety of bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, and Escherichia coli, and is used to treat complicated skin and soft tissue infections, both chronic and acute respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, bacterial gastroenteritis, infections of female reproductive organs, periorbital infections, otitis media, sinusitis, periodontal disease, gallbladder inflammation, and other bacterial infections. It is also indicated for critical infection symptoms such as chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, acute pyelonephritis, and gonococcal urethritis; however, it should only be used when necessary due to the risk of side effects associated with fluoroquinolones. This medication is very useful in treating complicated bacterial infections and effectively improves infection symptoms.
For adults, the usual dose of Levofloxacin is 100 mg taken orally 2 to 3 times a day. In cases of severe infection or inadequate response, the recommended dose is 200 mg taken orally 3 times a day. Adjustments should be made based on age and symptoms.
This medication can cause tendon problems such as tendinitis or tendon rupture, and peripheral neuropathy or central nervous system symptoms may also occur. If such serious side effects occur, use of this medication should be discontinued immediately. It should not be administered to patients with myasthenia gravis as it may worsen symptoms. While this medication is used to treat specific bacterial infections, it should only be employed when no other treatment options are available. Elderly individuals, patients with impaired kidney function, and those taking corticosteroids are at increased risk for tendon rupture and should be monitored carefully. This medication may increase the risk of seizures; thus, it should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy or central nervous system disorders. Hypersensitivity or severe allergic reactions may occur; hence, if symptoms like rash or difficulty breathing arise, administration should be stopped immediately. This medication can affect various organs such as the liver, kidneys, and blood, necessitating regular monitoring. During use, it is essential to avoid excessive sun exposure and to be cautious not to strain tendons during physical activities. It is safest not to use this medication in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as in children and adolescents in their growth phase. Because it may interact with other medications, it is crucial to inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken.
