Amlodipine or Olmesartan Medoxomil is used for the treatment of essential hypertension. These medications are used alone when blood pressure is not adequately controlled, effectively lowering blood pressure and reducing the burden on the heart and blood vessels. Continuous treatment helps to reduce the risk of complications due to hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily, one tablet, with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning) if possible. The maximum blood pressure-lowering effect appears within two weeks after administration, so dosage adjustments should be spaced at intervals of more than two weeks. Recommended dosages are as follows: - 5/20 mg: Amlodipine 5 mg or Olmesartan Medoxomil 20 mg monotherapy for adequately controlled blood pressure.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to the active ingredients or similar classes of drugs, pregnant and breastfeeding women, those with severe liver dysfunction, heart valve disease patients, those with obstructive biliary disease, patients undergoing kidney dialysis, patients in a state of shock, and certain diabetic patients should not take this medication. Patients with a deficiency of fluid or salt may experience low blood pressure; therefore, their condition should be closely monitored when taking it for the first time, and appropriate action should be taken if hypotension occurs. This drug has a vasodilating effect, which can rarely cause acute hypotension, so patients with heart valve disease should be especially cautious. Patients with heart failure or severe obstructive coronary artery disease may notice an exacerbation of symptoms after taking the medication; care should be taken. Renal function can be affected by the medication; therefore, patients with kidney disease should undergo regular assessments of kidney function. Patients with reduced liver function may experience slowed drug metabolism; thus, caution should be exercised during administration. Side effects such as dizziness, headache, hypotension, edema, indigestion, etc. may occur during the course of treatment; if symptoms are severe, consultation with a healthcare professional is recommended. During pregnancy, there may be risks to the fetus, so any plans for pregnancy or existing pregnancy should be discussed with a healthcare professional. Breastfeeding may transmit the drug in breast milk, potentially affecting the infant; therefore, breastfeeding may need to be suspended, or medication may need to be discontinued. Safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 18 years of age, so use is not recommended. In elderly patients, reduced kidney and liver function may be present, so treatment should start with a lower dosage and be given with caution. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, vasodilation, and tachycardia may occur; immediate medical treatment should be sought. Drug interactions may occur, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist and seek a consultation. This medication should be kept in a tightly closed container, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and out of reach of children.
