Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) (e.g., erosive esophagitis), treatment and prevention of recurrence of Helicobacter pylori-associated benign peptic ulcers, relief of upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers, treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and maintenance therapy effect for the prevention of rebleeding from gastric ulcers.
This medication is used for the treatment of erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease and for the long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It is also effective for the treatment and prevention of recurrent duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. It is utilized for the relief of upper gastrointestinal symptoms and the treatment of gastric ulcers caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Additionally, it aids in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and as a maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers, improving symptoms effectively.
This medication should be swallowed with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. For patients whose esophagitis does not improve or whose symptoms continue, take for an additional 4 weeks. - Long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. - Symptomatic treatment of GERD without esophagitis: · 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, further evaluation is necessary. · Once symptoms are alleviated, subsequent symptoms can be managed with 20 mg once daily. · In adults, 20 mg can be taken as needed once daily. For patients at high risk of gastric and duodenal ulcers due to prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, continuous symptom control on an as-needed basis is not recommended. 2) Combination therapy with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori Administer this medication 20 mg together with amoxicillin 1 g and clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily for 7 days. 3) Short-term therapy for upper gastrointestinal symptoms (pain, discomfort, burning) related to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (non-selective and selective COX-2) - 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, further evaluation is necessary. No clinical trials have been conducted beyond 4 weeks. 4) For patients needing continued nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug therapy - To treat gastric ulcers associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use: 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. - To prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers related to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use: 20 mg once daily. 5) Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome The recommended initial dosage is 40 mg twice daily. The subsequent dosage should be adjusted according to the patient, and treatment should continue as long as clinical symptoms persist. According to clinical data, most patients can be adjusted at doses between 80 to 160 mg daily. Doses over 80 mg daily should be divided into twice daily administration. 6) Maintenance therapy after intravenous induction for the prevention of rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers Administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks after intravenous induction for the prevention of rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers. 2. Adolescents aged 12 years and older 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If esophagitis is unresponsive or symptoms persist, continue for another 4 weeks. - Symptomatic treatment of GERD without esophagitis: · 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, further evaluation is necessary. · Once symptoms are alleviated, subsequent symptoms can be managed with 20 mg once daily. · In adults, 20 mg can be taken as needed once daily. For patients at high risk of gastric and duodenal ulcers due to prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, continuous symptom control on an as-needed basis is not recommended. 3. Children under 12 years: There is no experience administering this medication to children under 12. 4. Renal impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary. There have been few cases in patients with severe renal impairment, so it should be administered cautiously. 5. Hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild to moderate liver impairment. No more than 20 mg should be given to patients with severe liver impairment. 6. Elderly: No dose adjustment is necessary.

This medication should not be used in patients with specific allergic reactions or hypersensitivity. In particular, it should not be administered to patients allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics, those taking specific heart-related medications, nursing women, or those with a history of myocardial infarction. This medication contains a dye called Yellow No. 4, and patients who are allergic or hypersensitive to this ingredient should use it with caution. Various adverse reactions can occur during use, so if symptoms such as headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, skin rash, muscle pain, abnormal liver function, or blood abnormalities appear, consult a healthcare professional immediately. In particular, caution is needed as electrolyte abnormalities like hypomagnesemia, severe allergic reactions, and severe skin reactions may occur. Long-term use may risk alleviating symptoms of malignant tumors or delaying diagnosis, so any suspicious symptoms should be confirmed. Also, those taking this medication for more than one year should undergo regular examinations. This medication inhibits gastric acid secretion, which may increase the risk of bacterial overgrowth in the stomach, so if diarrhea persists, notify a healthcare professional. Long-term use may increase the risk of fractures, so patients at risk of osteoporosis should regularly check their status. This medication has many drug interactions, so it's essential to consult with a doctor or pharmacist when taking it with specific antibiotics, antiviral drugs, anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, etc. There is insufficient safety data for use during pregnancy, so it should be used cautiously in pregnant women, and it is advisable not to take this medication while breastfeeding. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so appropriate treatment should be administered based on symptoms, and it should be stored out of reach of children. This medication should not be transferred to another container and should be stored in its original packaging to maintain quality.
Hives, angioedema, anaphylaxis, shock, severe allergic reactions, jaundice, hepatitis, liver failure, encephalopathy, liver abnormalities, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, DRESS syndrome, severe skin reactions, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, myocardial infarction and its history, severe edema, systemic severe edema, severe headache, seizures, consciousness confusion, vision abnormalities, paralysis.
