This medication is used for effectively controlling blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It also helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death due to cardiovascular diseases in patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or in high-risk diabetic patients. It is particularly useful for patients over 55 years old at high risk for cardiovascular diseases and can be used as an alternative treatment when ACE inhibitors are not tolerated. This plays an important role in maintaining cardiovascular health and reducing the occurrence of complications.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn, particularly during pregnancy, therefore it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Do not use this medication if you have allergies to it or its components, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have severe liver disease or cholestasis, have hereditary angioedema or related history, and certain diabetic patients with diminished kidney function. Elderly patients, those with high serum potassium levels, individuals with mildly impaired liver function, patients with heart valve disease or heart dysfunction, those with gastrointestinal diseases, patients with renal vascular hypertension, and patients with severe renal impairment should use this medication cautiously. During treatment, various side effects such as infections, anemia, allergic reactions, hyperkalemia, hypoglycemia, mental changes, dizziness, blood pressure reduction, difficulty breathing, liver function abnormalities, skin rash, myalgia, and kidney impairment may rarely occur; consult a doctor immediately if any unusual symptoms arise. In particular, in cases of angioedema symptoms (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, etc.) or severe hypotension, deterioration of kidney function, liver dysfunction, shock, interstitial pneumonia, or rhabdomyolysis, stop taking the medication immediately and receive appropriate treatment. This medication should be administered while regularly checking serum potassium and creatinine levels in patients with weak kidney function, and caution is needed for patients with low blood volume or sodium due to high risk of hypotension. In addition, when taken in conjunction with other antihypertensives, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), interactions may increase the risk of side effects, so consult a doctor or pharmacist. This medication should not be used during pregnancy due to serious risks to the fetus, and if breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid taking it or to discontinue breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents (under 18 years) have not been established, hence it is not recommended. In elderly patients, caution should be exercised to monitor for excessive blood pressure reduction that could increase the risk of stroke. In case of overdose, symptoms like hypotension, dizziness, and acute renal failure may appear, and appropriate medical treatment should be sought immediately. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and the sealed packaging should not be opened until just prior to taking it. When driving or operating dangerous machinery, caution should be observed due to the risk of dizziness or fainting.
