This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it decreases the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease and patients with type 2 diabetes, and reduces the possibility of cardiovascular issues such as angioplasty or angina. Additionally, it is effective in reducing the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, and congestive heart failure in patients with clinical evidence. It is also used for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, lowering total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglyceride levels while raising HDL cholesterol levels, thus helping maintain healthy blood lipid levels. It is often used as an adjunct to dietary therapy in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This medication may cause muscle symptoms; if symptoms such as myalgia, muscle weakness, or muscle cramps occur, consult a doctor immediately. Particularly, if muscle enzyme levels increase significantly, treatment should be discontinued, as there is a risk of renal impairment due to severe muscle damage. This medication can affect liver function, so it should not be used by patients with liver disease or elevated liver enzyme levels. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant and nursing mothers should not take this medication. It should not be given to children, especially those under 10 years of age. Precautions should be taken when used by individuals with a history of alcohol abuse or liver disease. Patients over 70 years old are at higher risk of muscle-related side effects, so dosage adjustments and regular monitoring are necessary. This medication can increase blood concentration and risk of side effects when taken with certain other drugs, so inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications. Taking it with grapefruit juice may increase blood concentration, so excessive intake should be avoided. If symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, malaise, fever, skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur while taking this medication, inform medical personnel immediately. Regular liver function tests and muscle enzyme tests are important while on this medication. Store this medication out of reach of children and keep it in its original container for safety.
