This medication is used to treat osteoporosis that can occur in both postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Once a week, take one tablet of this drug (70 mg/2800 IU or 70 mg/5600 IU) in the morning with a sufficient amount of water at least 30 minutes before ingesting food, beverages, or other medications. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it and do not take it right before bedtime or upon waking. If a dose is missed, take one tablet the following morning.

Child dose

The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents (under 18 years) have not been established.

Precautions

This medication can irritate the mucosa of the upper gastrointestinal tract, which may lead to symptoms such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosions. When taking this medication, it should be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and you should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. If symptoms such as dysphagia, odynophagia, pain behind the sternum, or heartburn occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Patients with esophageal strictures or achalasia that delay esophageal emptying, patients who cannot remain upright for more than 30 minutes, patients allergic to any component of the medication, patients with hypocalcemia, and patients with certain genetic disorders should not take this medication. Adverse gastrointestinal reactions may occur while taking this medication, including abdominal pain, nausea, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, gastric acid reflux, esophagitis, musculoskeletal pain, headache, dizziness, and alteration of taste, have been reported. Particularly in postmenopausal women and men receiving osteoporosis treatment, gastrointestinal symptoms and musculoskeletal pain may occur, so caution is advised. When taking this medication, it should be done in the morning, with sufficient water before consuming other foods, beverages, or medications, and you should remain upright and avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes post-administration. If calcium intake is insufficient, calcium supplements should be taken, and patients at high risk of vitamin D deficiency should also require vitamin D supplementation. This medication may be absorbed less effectively when taken with calcium supplements or antacids, so a gap of at least 30 minutes between doses should be maintained, and gastrointestinal adverse reactions may increase when used in combination with aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, it should be administered cautiously after thorough consultation with a physician, and it is not recommended for children or patients with severely impaired renal function. In cases of overdose, hypocalcemia or gastrointestinal adverse reactions may occur, so immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary, and do not induce vomiting but keep the patient in an upright position. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers for safety.

Serious side effects

Hives, severe swelling (edema), cold sweat, pallor, chest tightness, difficulty in breathing, severe allergic reactions, severe rash, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, severe skin adverse reactions, asthma attacks, respiratory difficulty accompanied by coughing and fever, difficulty with breathing or shortness of breath, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), profound lethargy, liver abnormalities (jaundice), sudden and severe headache, lightning-like attack.

Mild side effects

Abdominal pain, nausea, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, gastric acid reflux, vomiting, dysphagia, abdominal distention, gastritis, musculoskeletal (bone, muscle, or joint) pain, muscle cramps, headache, dizziness, taste disturbances, rash, itching, hair loss, oropharyngeal inflammation, esophagitis, esophageal erosion, esophageal ulcers, esophageal stricture, oral cavity ulcers, gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, angioedema, myalgia, symptoms of hypocalcemia, peripheral edema, osteonecrosis of the jaw, arthralgia.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a sealed container. It is also advisable to keep it away from direct sunlight and at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
