This medication is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis, and can be taken for long periods to prevent recurrence. It is effective for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and is also used as maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers. This medication should not be used in certain patients.
