This medication is used to treat various bacterial infections. It is effective for respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, empyema, and lung abscess. It also improves upper respiratory tract infections such as tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is used for urinary tract infections like cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis, as well as for treating pelvic infections and gonorrhea. It is effective for skin and soft tissue infections, boils and abscesses, and wound infections, and is also used to treat osteomyelitis and dental infections. This medication treats multiple infectious diseases with a broad antibacterial spectrum.
For adults and children aged 12 years or older or weighing 40 kg or more, take amoxicillin/potassium clavulanate as a single dose of 250 mg/125 mg, taken orally three times a day every 8 hours. In cases of severe and respiratory infections, the dose can be increased to 500 mg/125 mg per single dose. In cases of renal impairment, dosage should be adjusted according to creatinine clearance.
For children under 12 years old or weighing less than 40 kg, the dosage should be reduced accordingly.
This medication is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to this drug or to penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics. It is particularly important to avoid administration in cases with a history of serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or shock. Additionally, caution is needed in patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia, as the risk of rash may increase. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice may have recurrence of symptoms when taking this medication, so it is advisable not to use it. Patients with reduced liver function or moderate to severe renal impairment may require careful adjustment of dosage and administration intervals to avoid increased drug concentration. Patients with an allergic constitution or symptoms such as asthma, skin rash, or urticaria should be cautious when taking this medication. Patients who have difficulty taking medication orally, elderly patients, or those with poor general conditions may experience bleeding tendencies due to vitamin K deficiency and should be monitored. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases experiencing vomiting or diarrhea may not absorb the medication adequately, so caution is needed. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting may occur during treatment with this medication, and in severe cases, serious colitis such as pseudomembranous colitis may develop; symptoms should be monitored and immediate consultation with a doctor is recommended if severe. Abnormalities in liver function may appear, and especially in elderly men, liver enzyme levels may rise, so regular liver function tests are advised. Rarely, skin rash, itching, and serious skin reactions may occur, and if these symptoms occur, medication should be stopped immediately and medical advice should be followed. Blood tests may show leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and other abnormalities, so regular blood tests are necessary during long-term administration. Central nervous system side effects, though rare, may include anxiety, confusion, headache, or seizures, and special caution is required in patients with reduced renal function or receiving high doses. In patients with impaired kidney function, acute renal failure or interstitial nephritis may occur, so regular renal function tests are crucial. This medication can affect intestinal flora and may cause fungal infections like candidiasis, so symptoms should be reported immediately. There may be bleeding tendencies due to vitamin K deficiency or symptoms of vitamin B complex deficiency, so nutritional status should be monitored during long-term use. This medication can interact with other drugs, especially anticoagulants, probenecid, allopurinol, and disulfiram, so caution is needed when used together, and the effect of oral contraceptives may be reduced, so it is essential to inform about any concurrent medications. It is best to avoid using this medication during pregnancy, especially in the first three months, and breastfeeding women should be cautious as diarrhea or skin rashes may occur in infants. It is not recommended for children under 12 years old or weighing less than 40 kg. Elderly patients may experience adverse reactions due to decreased physiological function and should use it carefully by adjusting dosage and administration intervals. Regular monitoring of kidney and liver function and blood tests is advised during treatment, and in case of overdose, immediate medical attention is necessary. Finally, this medication should be stored in a dry place below 25 degrees Celsius, and it is important to take it exactly as prescribed by a physician.
