Precautions

This medicine is a penicillin-class antibiotic, and should not be used in patients allergic to this medication or penicillin-class antibiotics. Patients with hypersensitivity to cephalosporins should also exercise caution, especially in cases where viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis are present, as the risk of rash may increase. This medication contains lactose, so it should not be given to patients with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or disorders of glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases or allergic conditions, and those with severe renal impairment should use this medication with caution. Particularly, elderly patients or those in poor general condition may show a tendency to bleed. When taking this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur, and in severe cases, pseudomembranous colitis may develop, thus treatment should be immediately stopped if severe diarrhea or abdominal pain occurs. Additionally, serious allergic reactions such as urticaria, rash, and anaphylactic shock may occur, and if these symptoms appear, use should be stopped immediately, and medical attention sought. Renal function may be affected, necessitating renal function tests, and blood tests may show anemia or thrombocytopenia, so regular monitoring is recommended. Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of fungi or non-susceptible bacteria, so treatment should be stopped if symptoms of superinfection occur. Skin rash or itching, along with severe skin reactions, may appear, so skin condition should be monitored closely, and liver function abnormalities have also been reported, making liver function tests necessary. In case of overdose, symptoms of neurological abnormalities or renal failure may occur, warranting caution, and the medication can be removed by hemodialysis in such cases. During pregnancy, the risk to the fetus is low, but it should only be used when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks, and during breastfeeding, the components of this medication can be secreted into breast milk, potentially causing diarrhea or skin rash in the infant, hence caution is advised. In children and the elderly, renal function may be compromised, requiring adjustment of dosage and administration intervals as well as close monitoring of their condition. This medication may interact with other drugs, so especially when taken along with methotrexate, probenecid, allopurinol, or oral contraceptives, consult with a doctor or pharmacist. When using this medication, it is essential to administer it only for the minimum necessary duration to prevent resistance against the infecting bacteria, and if persistent diarrhea occurs after antibiotic use, consider the possibility of pseudomembranous colitis and seek diagnosis and treatment.
