This medicine is used for the treatment and symptom relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis. It also aids in the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It supports the short-term treatment of upper gastrointestinal symptoms occurring with NSAID use, as well as treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers induced by these drugs. It is also used in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and is suitable for maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of gastric or duodenal ulcer bleeding. Overall, it is effectively utilized for treating various gastrointestinal diseases and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients who have had an allergy or hypersensitivity reaction to this medication or any of its components, as well as those allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics, should not be administered this drug. Patients taking certain medications (terfenadine, cisapride, pimodi, astemizole, atazanavir, nelfinavir, etc.), nursing mothers, and patients with a history of myocardial infarction should also avoid using this medication. This drug contains the dye Yellow No. 4; therefore, patients with a history of allergy to this component should use it cautiously. While taking this medication, various adverse reactions may occur, so caution is necessary. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and vomiting may occur, along with skin rashes, itching, and occasionally severe skin reactions. Blood abnormalities, hypomagnesemia, neurological symptoms, and liver function anomalies have also been reported. Regular check-ups are necessary when this drug is used for long periods, and patients should consult their doctor if symptoms change. Particular caution is advisable for long-term use beyond one year due to the potential increased risk of fractures and occurrence of hypomagnesemia. This medication interacts with many other drugs, which may alter blood concentration depending on what else is taken. Careful monitoring is advised when co-administered with antibiotics, antiviral medications, anticoagulants, and antiepileptics as per doctor’s guidance. Information regarding safety while pregnant or nursing is limited; therefore, a careful decision should be made after consulting with a doctor if necessary. In case of an overdose, there is no specific antidote, so management should be symptom-related, and it should be kept out of children's reach. Additionally, transferring the medication to another container is not advisable as it may negatively affect quality.
