Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who have experienced severe allergic reactions or shock from this drug, those allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics, and patients with genetic problems such as galactose intolerance or lactase deficiency should not be administered this drug. Patients requiring caution when using this drug include those who have had allergic reactions to this or similar antibiotic classes, those allergic to penicillin antibiotics, patients with allergic predispositions or bronchial asthma, patients with severely impaired kidney function, patients who have difficulty in oral intake, and the elderly, among others. Additionally, this drug contains the dye Yellow No. 5, so patients allergic to this component should also be cautious. During the course of taking this medication, various side effects may appear, hence careful observation is required. There can be rare occurrences of severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis, and hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, itching, and fever have also been reported. Gastrointestinal issues might include severe diarrhea or abdominal pain, and there is a rare chance of severe enteritis such as pseudomembranous colitis occurring, necessitating immediate discontinuation if symptoms arise. Respiratory problems, blood abnormalities, liver function impairment, and reduced kidney function have also been reported, so regular examinations are necessary. Additionally, signs of bleeding tendency due to vitamin K deficiency or vitamin B complex deficiency may emerge. When using this drug, it is crucial to perform sensitivity testing to prevent the emergence of resistant strains, and to administer it only for the necessary minimum duration. Sufficient medical history is necessary to prevent allergic reactions, and especially in patients with reduced kidney function, careful adjustment of dosage and intervals is essential. Caution is also needed when taking this medication with other drugs. For instance, combining it with anticoagulant drugs such as warfarin may increase the risk of bleeding. Moreover, the concurrent use of certain antibiotics or diuretics may augment renal toxicity, necessitating careful monitoring. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits outweigh the risks, as the safety of this drug has not been established. It is advisable to avoid breastfeeding during the treatment period. Safety in neonates, premature infants, and infants under 6 months has not been established; thus, caution is required when using in these groups. Elderly patients may experience side effects more readily due to decreased bodily functions, making it necessary to adjust dosage and intervals, and monitor their condition closely. This drug may affect certain clinical test results, so caution is required when interpreting test results. Finally, the suspension of this drug should not be stored for more than 2 weeks after manufacture, and the powder form should be kept from being mixed with milk or juice for prolonged periods.
