View approved original text

This medication is used to assist patients with type 2 diabetes in controlling their blood sugar levels in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapies. It can be administered alone, and when blood sugar control is insufficient, it may be used in combination with other oral hypoglycemics or insulin. In particular, when treatment with sulfonylurea or metformin alone is inadequate, it can be administered together with metformin to improve blood sugar control. This medication is used appropriately according to personalized treatment plans and enhances overall blood sugar management.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or those in a coma. Moreover, it should not be administered to individuals allergic to this medication, its components, or sulfonylurea drugs, or to patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction. It is also advisable for women who are pregnant or possibly pregnant, as well as nursing women, not to take this medication. In the case of severe infections, before or after surgery, or for patients with significant injuries, insulin treatment is recommended, and caution is needed with the use of this medication. In cases of gastrointestinal disorders, food absorption may be poor, increasing the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication contains lactose and should not be given to patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. The risk of hypoglycemia is high during the initial stages of treatment, and blood sugar levels should be closely monitored, especially in patients with irregular meals, poor nutritional status, alcohol consumption, or those with impaired kidney or liver function, and elderly patients. Drug interactions may occur when used in combination with other medications, so all concurrent medications should be disclosed to healthcare providers. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include headache, hunger, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, drowsiness, and loss of consciousness; if symptoms are severe, healthcare professionals should be informed immediately. Regular meals, physical activity, and weight management are crucial during the medication period, and it is necessary to quickly consume sugar in the event of hypoglycemia. Insulin treatment is recommended for pregnant or nursing women to avoid potential effects on the fetus or newborn. Overdose can lead to severe hypoglycemia, and if suspected, treatment should be sought immediately. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so its use in pediatric patients is not recommended. Store in a sealed container out of reach of children.
