This medication is used to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion caused by colds, allergies, and vasomotor rhinitis. The tablet and syrup formulations are effective for symptoms accompanied by tearing, while the capsule formulation is mainly used for the symptoms of sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion. It helps improve these symptoms, making daily life more comfortable for patients.

How to take

Adult dose

Tablet: Take 1 tablet once, 3 times a day after meals. Capsule: Take 1 capsule once, 3 times a day after meals. Syrup: Take 10 mL once, 3 times a day after meals.

Child dose

Tablet: For ages 12 to 14, take 1/2 tablet once, 3 times a day after meals. Capsule: For ages 12 to 14, take 1/2 capsule once, 3 times a day after meals. Syrup: For ages 12 and above, take 10 mL once, 3 times a day after meals.

Precautions

This medication contains pseudoephedrine and may cause serious reactions such as severe rashes or pustules on the skin. If fever, redness of the skin, or many small blisters occur, stop taking immediately and consult a doctor or pharmacist. This medication should not be taken by individuals with certain diseases or conditions. For example, individuals who are allergic to this medication, have severely impaired liver, kidney, or heart function, have difficulty urinating, are hypertensive, pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 2 years old, and individuals taking certain medications should not use this medication. Also, those with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should avoid taking it. During treatment with this medication, do not take with blood pressure medications, alcohol, sedatives, or some antidepressants, and particularly, it is safe to take this medication only after at least 15 days following the use of MAO inhibitors. While taking this medication, it is advisable not to carry out tasks that require concentration, such as driving or operating machinery. Children under 12 years old, as well as individuals with asthma, glaucoma, heart disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, or prostatic hyperplasia should consult a healthcare professional before taking this medication. If symptoms do not improve within 7 days or if high fever occurs, stop taking immediately and consult medical personnel. If unusual symptoms such as drowsiness, anxiety, hallucinations, muscle spasms, severe headaches, difficulty breathing, skin rashes, indigestion, or difficulty urinating appear, stop taking immediately and consult a professional. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hallucinations, seizures, and insomnia may occur, so if these symptoms appear, immediate treatment at a hospital is necessary; in particular, rapid removal of pseudoephedrine may be required. Store this medication out of reach of children, away from direct sunlight, and in a cool, dry place, sealed in its original container. Transferring it to another container can lead to misuse or deterioration of quality, so caution is required.

Side effects and when to seek care immediately

Serious side effects

Acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), high fever, erythema, severe skin adverse reactions with numerous small pustules, ischemic colitis symptoms (acute abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, etc.), reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome, and reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome symptoms (sudden severe headache, thunderclap headache, nausea, vomiting, confusion, seizures, visual disturbances, etc.).

Mild side effects

Sedation, drowsiness, central nervous system depression, central nervous system stimulation, anxiety, sweating, mild hypotension, visual disturbances, mydriasis, delirium, hallucinations, agitation, muscle spasms, rigidity, athetosis, hyperthermia, respiratory paralysis, coma, cardiovascular collapse, skin reactions, transient irritation, burning sensation, thirst, nausea, vomiting, difficulty urinating, agitation in children, hallucinations and seizures in case of overdose, nervousness, dizziness, and insomnia, etc.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Interactions

Drug interactions

Do not take this medication with antihypertensive agents, central nervous system depressants (sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers), sympathomimetics, tricyclic antidepressants, guanethidine, bretylium, beta-nide, debrisoquine, methyldopa, sympathomimetic drugs (decongestants, appetite suppressants, and amphetamines), or adrenergic antagonists. MAO inhibitors should be taken only after a minimum of 15 days have passed since administration. It also interacts with alcohol.

This medication should be stored in a sealed container that blocks light, preferably at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage can help maintain the medication's effectiveness for a long time.
