This medication is used for pruritic skin disorders such as urticaria, eczema, and dermatitis, as well as allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis.

How it is given

Adult administration

As chlorpheniramine maleate, dose 5-10mg subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously 1-2 times a day. Adjust dosage according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This drug is in injectable form and can have glass fragments when using glass vials, so care should be taken to avoid introducing glass particles, especially when used in children or the elderly. This drug contains benzyl alcohol, which can cause fatal respiratory issues in premature infants; therefore, it should not be used in newborns or premature infants. Patients with an allergy to this drug or similar components, those with lower urinary tract obstruction diseases such as glaucoma or prostatic hypertrophy, and those on MAO inhibitors should not be administered this drug. Patients with elevated intraocular pressure, hyperthyroidism, peptic ulcers, cardiovascular diseases, epilepsy, bronchial diseases, or liver diseases should use this drug with extra caution. Various side effects such as shock, convulsions, blood abnormalities, allergic reactions, neurological symptoms, gastrointestinal problems, urinary problems, and heart and respiratory symptoms may occur, so careful monitoring of the condition is required while using this drug. This drug may cause drowsiness, so it is recommended to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery while taking it. Taking alcohol or central nervous system depressants may increase drowsiness, and caution should be taken as it may interact with certain medications, increasing toxicity. The safety of this drug has not been established for pregnant or breastfeeding women, so it should be administered carefully only if necessary, with caution as it may be transmitted through breast milk. In children, overdose may result in hallucinations, agitation, convulsions, and severe side effects, so it should be used with particular caution. Elderly patients may have reduced physical function, so it should be administered with caution while monitoring their condition closely. In case of overdose, serious symptoms such as central nervous system abnormalities and cardiovascular problems may occur, requiring immediate notification to medical personnel and appropriate treatment.
