How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily. In asthma patients, it should be taken in the evening. In allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time is determined based on the patient's condition. Adults and adolescents 15 years and older should take 10 mg orally once a day as Montelukast. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet once daily in the evening.

Precautions

This medication is used to prevent and treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. During the course of treatment, neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur, so patients and guardians should carefully observe for changes in mental status such as restlessness, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts. If these symptoms or behavioral changes occur, consult a physician immediately and discontinue the medication. This medication contains an artificial sweetener called aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. Additionally, due to the lactose contained in this medication, patients with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. During an acute asthma attack, this medication is not suitable as a bronchodilator, so a rescue bronchodilator should always be available. This medication should not be used as a sudden substitute for corticosteroids, nor should it be used alone for exercise-induced asthma treatment. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin should not take aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while taking this medication. Rarely, serious side effects such as systemic eosinophilia and vasculitis may occur, so healthcare providers should carefully monitor the patient’s symptoms. This medication can be safely used in various age groups, but children under 6 months and pregnant women should consult a physician before use. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and general treatment and monitoring according to symptoms are required. Store this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers. If asthma symptoms worsen or the use of rescue bronchodilators increases, consult a physician immediately. Finally, during the course of this medication, do not adjust the dosage of other asthma medications without a physician's instructions.
