This medication is primarily used in patients with hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia. It is used as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (type IIa) and mixed dyslipidemia (type IIb) that cannot be controlled through diet and exercise alone. Furthermore, it helps patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia alongside other lipid-lowering therapies. This drug is effective in lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, delaying the progression of atherosclerosis. It is also used as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia (type III) and helps reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization in elderly patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease. Thus, it is effectively used for various lipid-related disorders and cardiovascular risk reduction.
