This medication is primarily used as an adjunct in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia when diet and exercise are insufficiently effective. It is also used as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It helps lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, delaying the progression of atherosclerosis, particularly in adolescent patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It is also used as an adjunct to the diet in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization in high-risk groups with an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease. This medication effectively improves the prevention of hyperlipidemia and cardiovascular diseases.
