This medication is primarily used as an adjunct therapy in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. It also helps lower cholesterol levels when administered in conjunction with dietary measures or other treatments for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It lowers total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels, slowing the progression of atherosclerosis, and is particularly effective in pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It is also used as an adjunct to dietary therapy in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia, contributing to reduced risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and revascularization procedures in middle-aged people with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels and cardiovascular risk factors. This drug is effectively used for various types of dyslipidemia and to reduce cardiovascular disease risk.
