How to apply drops

Adult eye dose

For mild to moderate infections, instill 1-2 drops in the infected area every 4 hours. For severe infections, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, then gradually taper off. Adjust dosage according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used as an eye drop to treat infections in the eyes. This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug, aminoglycoside antibiotics, or bacitracin. During use, symptoms such as itchiness of the eyelids, swelling, redness, conjunctival erythema, and temporary burning sensations in the eyes may occur; if these symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately. Additionally, as irritation or pain in the eyes may occur, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional if discomfort persists. When using this medication, it is important to check the sensitivity of the infecting bacteria to prevent the emergence of resistant strains and to administer it for the minimum necessary duration. To prevent severe allergic reactions such as shock, sufficient history-taking and skin tests are recommended prior to administration. If used for prolonged periods or repeatedly, there is a risk of excessive proliferation of resistant bacteria, so if symptoms of superinfection occur, discontinue use immediately and seek appropriate treatment. This medication should not be used in conjunction with tetracycline antibiotics, which are specific antibiotics. When using systemic aminoglycoside medications, blood levels should be monitored regularly. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid wearing contact lenses to prevent the spread of infection. After instilling the drops, temporary blurring of vision may occur, so refrain from driving or operating machinery until vision returns to normal. When this medication is used with anticoagulants (blood-thinning medications), the anticoagulant effect may be enhanced; thus, regular checks of blood coagulation status are necessary, and the anticoagulant dosage may need to be adjusted if needed. During pregnancy, although animal studies have not indicated a risk of teratogenicity, it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and during breastfeeding, it may be harmful to the baby, so breastfeeding should be discontinued or used only when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as keratitis, erythema, increased tearing, and itching of the eyelids may occur. Blood concentrations should be monitored to prevent them from exceeding certain levels, and blood dialysis may be helpful if necessary. This medication must not be injected into the eye. Finally, some bacteria in the country have shown resistance to this medication, so caution is advised during treatment.
