Precautions

This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic and should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Careful use is required in individuals with a history of allergy to penicillin or other drugs, particularly in patients with renal impairment or severe illness, where renal status should be rigorously evaluated and monitored before and during treatment. Dosing should be adjusted in patients with renal impairment, as drug levels may increase. Patients with gastrointestinal disease or a prior history of colitis should be cautious. Gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occur, and liver function tests may show transient elevations. Allergic reactions such as rash or urticaria may occur, particularly more often reported in children. Central nervous system symptoms like dizziness, headache, and insomnia may rarely occur, and in patients with reduced renal function, there is a risk of seizures, necessitating immediate discontinuation if such symptoms appear. Care must be taken when co-administering this medication with certain antibiotics or diuretics as renal toxicity may increase. It should only be used during pregnancy when absolutely necessary and administered cautiously in breastfeeding, as its effects on infants are unknown. It is advised not to use in infants under 6 months of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may require dosage adjustments due to potential renal function decline. This medication may affect certain blood and urine test results, so it is important to inform healthcare professionals during such tests. In cases of overdose in patients with renal impairment, blood dialysis may be performed to remove the medication. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria with prolonged use, it is important to use this medication for the minimum necessary duration, and if signs of non-susceptible bacterial overgrowth or pseudomembranous colitis appear during treatment, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is required.
