This medication is used to relieve pain and muscle stiffness associated with musculoskeletal disorders. For example, it is effective in cases of shoulder pain accompanied by muscle cramps, such as shoulder impingement syndrome, periarthritis of the shoulder, and low back pain. It also helps to improve symptoms of spastic paralysis caused by neurological diseases such as cerebral vascular disorders, spinal cord injuries, and cerebral palsy. It is widely used for various muscle stiffness and pain-related conditions.

Adult dose

For adults, 50mg of eperisone hydrochloride is administered orally three times a day after meals. Adjustments may be made according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals allergic to it. It should not be administered to patients with myasthenia gravis who have very weak muscles. This medication contains lactose, so patients with genetically determined galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should avoid it. Patients who have had previous allergic reactions to drugs should use this medication cautiously. This medication may worsen liver function; therefore, caution is needed in patients with impaired liver function. This medication may rarely cause serious allergic reactions, such as shock, so if symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment should be provided. Regular monitoring is required as liver function test values may increase; if abnormalities are detected, administration should be stopped. Caution should be exercised as it may affect kidney function, possibly increasing proteinuria or waste levels in the blood. Blood abnormalities such as anemia may rarely occur, so if symptoms arise, administration should be stopped, and a doctor consulted. Hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash or itching may occur. Neurological symptoms such as insomnia, drowsiness, headache, limb paralysis, stiffness, or tremors may occur. Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation may occur. Urinary symptoms such as difficulty urinating or incontinence may rarely occur. General symptoms such as lethargy, dizziness, or reduced muscle tone may appear. Facial flushing, sweating, and swelling may also occur. Severe skin diseases, such as toxic epidermal necrolysis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome, may occur; thus, careful monitoring for symptoms such as fever, skin rash, blisters, eye redness, or stomatitis is necessary. If weakness, staggering, or drowsiness occurs during the course of this medication, the dosage should be reduced or stopped. Drowsiness and decreased attention may occur, so it is recommended to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery while taking this medication. Caution is advised if this medication is taken together with similar medications or specific muscle relaxants, as visual disturbances may occur. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been established, so women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits before taking it. Breastfeeding women are advised to avoid using this medication; if it is absolutely necessary, breastfeeding should be discontinued. The safety of this medication in children has not been sufficiently established, so caution is needed due to limited usage experience. Elderly individuals may have decreased body function, so caution should be exercised when using this medication, including adjusting the dosage.
