Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to weaken and increases the risk of fractures. This medication is used for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men. It improves bone density, enhances bone health, and reduces the risk of fractures. Therefore, it greatly helps in strengthening bones and preventing complications caused by osteoporosis.

How to take

Adult dose

One tablet (70 mg/2800 IU or 70 mg/5600 IU) should be taken once a week in the morning with a sufficient amount of water at least 30 minutes before the intake of food, drinks, or other medications. This medication should be taken immediately upon waking and should not be lay down for at least 30 minutes after taking it and until after the first intake of food.

Child dose

Children and adolescents (under 18 years): Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the stomach, potentially leading to issues such as esophagitis or esophageal ulcers. After taking it, do not lie down, and take it with a sufficient amount of water to reduce the risk of esophageal irritation. If you experience any abnormal symptoms such as dysphagia or heartburn, stop taking the medication and consult a doctor. Patients with esophageal clearance disorders or who cannot sit or stand for more than 30 minutes should not take this medication. Patients with low calcium levels or those allergic to the ingredients of this medication should also avoid it. This drug is used for treating osteoporosis, and side effects such as abdominal pain, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, muscle pain, and headaches may occur in some patients. Care is required, especially as gastrointestinal-related side effects may arise. If there is a vitamin D deficiency, additional supplementation may be necessary, and weight-bearing exercise and a healthy lifestyle are also important. Drug interactions may occur when used in combination with other medications, so calcium supplements or antacids should be taken at least 30 minutes apart from this medication. Pregnant or nursing individuals should consult a doctor to determine whether to take this medication, and it is not to be used in children. It is not recommended for patients with severely impaired kidney function. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal irritation and hypocalcemia may occur, hence caution is essential; emesis should be avoided, and immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
