This medication is effective for various conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendonitis, acute gout, and dysmenorrhea. It is also used for the relief of bursitis, skeletal muscle disorders, lumbago (lower back pain), post-surgical pain, migraine, and pain after tooth extraction. It helps alleviate symptoms and improve pain associated with multiple musculoskeletal and inflammatory diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis: Administer 275-550 mg of naproxen sodium per dose, twice daily (every 12 hours) orally. 2. Acute gout: Administer 825 mg orally as an initial dose, then 275 mg every 8 hours until the attack subsides. 3. Skeletal muscle disorders, post-surgical pain, pain after tooth extraction, dysmenorrhea, tendonitis, bursitis: Start with an initial dose of 550 mg orally.

Precautions

This medication may cause gastric bleeding in individuals who regularly consume more than three alcoholic beverages per day, so consultation with a physician or pharmacist is essential. It may increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction and stroke in individuals with heart or vascular problems or risk factors and should be monitored closely. Elderly patients should be particularly cautious as there may be a risk of severe issues such as ulcers or bleeding in the stomach or intestines; they must consult a physician immediately if any unusual symptoms occur during administration. This medication should not be taken by individuals with peptic ulcers, severe blood disorders, significant liver or kidney dysfunction, severe hypertension, or allergies to this medication or NSAIDs. Those with a history of peptic ulcers or blood disorders or issues with kidney, liver, or heart function should use this medication cautiously and may require regular testing. In case of respiratory distress, hives, skin rashes, severe abdominal pain, bleeding, or symptoms of liver or kidney dysfunction occur, use should be stopped immediately and a physician consulted. This medication should not be taken in conjunction with other NSAIDs to reduce the risk of side effects. It should also be avoided during late pregnancy as it may harm the fetus, and breastfeeding individuals should refrain from using it to prevent transmission to breast milk, which could affect the infant. Safety has not been established for children under 2 years, so it is preferable not to administer it to them. Older adults should start with a lower dose and monitor for adverse reactions.

Interactions

Drug interactions

Do not take this medication with other NSAIDs, naproxen derivatives, aspirin, or high doses of methotrexate. Avoid concurrent use with hydantoins, sulfonamides, sulfonylureas, propranolol and other beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, loop diuretics, thiazide diuretics, probenecid, lithium, low-dose methotrexate, coumarin anticoagulants, zidovudine, and fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

Storage

This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture, at a safe temperature between 1 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius. Storing it this way will help maintain its efficacy for a longer period.
