This medicine is used for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Take one tablet (70 mg/2800 IU or 70 mg/5600 IU) once weekly in the morning, at least 30 minutes before consuming food, beverages, or other medications, with a sufficient amount of water. After taking, do not lie down for at least 30 minutes and until the first intake of food. This medication should be taken immediately upon waking in the morning and should not be taken before bedtime or upon waking up before dawn.

Child dose

The safety and efficacy in pediatric and adolescent patients (under 18 years of age) have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the upper gastrointestinal mucosa, potentially leading to adverse esophageal reactions such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosion. If symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, pain while swallowing, pain behind the breastbone, or heartburn occur during treatment, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Always take this medication with a sufficient amount of water, and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. Patients with esophageal diseases, gastritis, duodenitis, or ulcers should exercise particular caution. This medication is not to be administered to patients with esophageal stricture or achalasia, patients who cannot sit or stand upright for more than 30 minutes, patients who have hypersensitivity to any component of the drug, or patients with hypocalcemia. Patients with genetic lactose intolerance should also exercise caution. This medication may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, musculoskeletal pain, headache, dizziness, and taste disturbances. Particularly, if there is severe pain in bones, joints, or muscles, consult a doctor. Taking this medication with calcium supplements, antacids, aspirin, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may increase the risk of upper gastrointestinal adverse reactions, so it is advised to space out the dosing. During pregnancy, careful consideration of potential effects on the fetus is necessary for administration, and caution is also required while breastfeeding. It is not to be used in children. It is not recommended for patients with severely impaired renal function. Upon taking, it should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach with plenty of water, and lying down for at least 30 minutes afterward is prohibited. In case of overdose, do not induce vomiting and visit a medical facility immediately. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), esophagitis, esophageal erosion, esophageal obstruction, esophageal perforation, severe allergic reactions, severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), severe edema, esophageal stricture, difficulty breathing, liver abnormalities (jaundice), serious neurological symptoms, angioedema.
