Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients with hypersensitivity to any ingredient of this medication or to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives, or with a history of hypersensitivity, should not take this medication. Patients with severely impaired renal function or those undergoing hemodialysis should also avoid using this medication. It is also advisable to avoid this medication in pregnant or potentially pregnant women, and in nursing mothers. Babies under 1 year of age should never be given this medication, and children under 6 years of age should only take it in liquid form, not as tablets. Additionally, this tablet contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic lactase deficiency should not take this medication. This medication should be administered with caution to patients with impaired renal or liver function, and to elderly individuals, as there is a risk of increased blood concentration. Taking this medication may cause neurological side effects such as drowsiness, headache, fatigue, and dizziness. Gastrointestinal side effects may include dry mouth, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and, rarely, cardiac arrhythmias or hematological adverse effects have been reported. Furthermore, allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, or swelling may occur, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a physician is advised. As this medication may cause drowsiness or fatigue, extra caution is needed when driving or operating hazardous machinery. Taking it with alcohol or CNS-acting drugs may exacerbate these symptoms, so it is best to avoid concurrent use. Moreover, patients with urinary retention issues or diseases like benign prostatic hyperplasia should be particularly cautious when taking this medication. Alcohol should be avoided as it may increase the CNS depressant effects of this medication. Other drug interactions are minimal, but it is advisable to consult with a physician or pharmacist when taking certain medications. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are recommended not to take this medication. Especially, the ingredients of this drug may be excreted in breast milk and could affect the baby. For children, it is unsafe for those under 1 year of age, and it is safer to give liquid form to those aged 1 to under 6 years. Elderly individuals may have decreased renal function, so they should start with a low dosage and be monitored carefully. It is advisable to discontinue this medication before allergy tests, and overdose may result in symptoms such as drowsiness or agitation. There is no specific antidote, making symptom-specific treatment necessary, and this medication cannot be effectively removed by hemodialysis.
