Treatment of respiratory infections (bronchitis, pneumonia) and urinary tract infections (cystitis, pyelonephritis)
This medication is used for the treatment of various infections caused by different bacteria. It is effective for respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, lobar and bronchial pneumonia, empyema, and lung abscesses. It is also used for infections such as tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is suitable for urinary tract infections such as cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, as well as pelvic infections and gonorrhea. It provides broad treatment for skin and soft tissue infections, boils or abscesses, soft tissue inflammation, and wound infections. It is also effective for osteomyelitis and dental infections, helping to improve a variety of infections.
Adults and children over 12 years or weighing more than 40 kg should take 250 mg/125 mg of amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium orally three times a day every 8 hours. In cases of severe and respiratory infections, the dose can be increased to 500 mg/125 mg per dosage. In cases of renal impairment, dosage adjustments should be based on creatinine clearance. - Creatinine clearance ≥ 30 mL/min: No dosage adjustment needed
For adults and children over 12 years or weighing more than 40 kg, the dosage is the same, administering 250 mg/125 mg of amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium three times a day orally every 8 hours. In severe and respiratory infections, the dose can be increased.
This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to specific ingredients, especially those who have previously experienced hypersensitivity to penicillin class drugs. Also, patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia should be cautious when taking this medication as it may increase the risk of rash. Patients with liver function problems may experience a recurrence of symptoms if they take this medication, so caution is required. Patients with decreased liver function or severe kidney disease should use the medication carefully, adjusting the dose and intervals due to potentially elevated drug concentrations. Patients with an allergic constitution or those who often present with symptoms such as bronchial asthma or skin rashes should consult a physician before taking this medication. Patients who have difficulty with oral intake, the elderly, or those in poor general condition are at risk for bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency, requiring caution. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases may experience decreased absorption of the medication, which could reduce its effectiveness. This medication can cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In severe cases, serious conditions like pseudomembranous colitis may occur; if any abnormal symptoms arise, the medication should be discontinued immediately and medical attention sought. Liver function abnormalities have also been reported, particularly in elderly patients or those on prolonged treatment, so regular liver function tests are advisable. Rarely, serious allergic reactions such as rashes, anaphylaxis, and hematological abnormalities can occur, so if symptoms like rash or breathing difficulties arise, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical assistance sought. This medication can also impact kidney function, and those with kidney abnormalities require regular testing and should discontinue use if any signs occur. While using antibiotics, the balance of intestinal flora may be disrupted, leading to infections like candidiasis or stomatitis; thus, consultation with a physician should be sought if symptoms occur. Bleeding tendencies due to vitamin K deficiency or symptoms of vitamin B complex deficiency may also arise; caution is necessary with prolonged use. This medication can interact with other drugs, so individuals taking other medications must inform their healthcare provider, particularly when combined with anticoagulants or specific antibiotics. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant must consult a physician before using this medication, and especially should not use it during the first three months of pregnancy. In breastfeeding cases, this medication may be partially transferred to breast milk, potentially causing diarrhea or skin rashes in infants; if abnormal symptoms arise, use should be stopped. Use in children under 12 years or those weighing less than 40 kg is not recommended. Elderly patients may experience side effects more readily due to decreased physiological functions; therefore, they should use the medication cautiously, adjusting the dose and intervals. This medication may affect certain clinical test results, such as urine sugar tests; healthcare providers should be informed during testing. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as gastrointestinal issues, renal dysfunction, or allergic reactions may occur; immediate discontinuation and emergency care are necessary.
