This medication helps to prevent and provide ongoing treatment for asthma. It is also used to relieve the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 and older take 10 mg of montelukast by mouth once daily. Can be taken in the form of 10 mg tablets or 10 mg orally disintegrating films by placing on the tongue to dissolve without water. It should be administered 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 receive 5 mg of montelukast once a day. 5 mg chewable tablets should be chewed before swallowing, and the 5 mg oral tablet should be placed on the tongue to dissolve without water. 5 mg orally disintegrating tablets.

Precautions

This medication may affect the central nervous system, so if symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, suicidal thoughts arise during administration, consult a doctor immediately. Also, this medication contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener, and should be avoided by patients with phenylketonuria. It contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should avoid this medication. This medication is not for treating acute asthma attacks; separate emergency medications should be used during an asthma attack.
