Treatment of bacterial infections such as respiratory and urinary tract infections
This medication is used to treat various infections caused by different bacteria. Starting with respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, lobar pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is also effective in treating urinary tract infections such as cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, and sexually transmitted diseases such as pelvic infections and gonorrhea. It is useful in treating skin and soft tissue infections such as furuncles, abscesses, cellulitis, and wound infections, as well as osteomyelitis. It is also utilized in treating dental infections, responding to a variety of bacteria including resistant strains. This medication effectively treats infections with a broad spectrum of antibacterial action.
For mild to moderate infections such as recurrent tonsillitis, upper respiratory infections, lower respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections, amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium is administered at 25 mg/3.6 mg per kg of body weight per day, divided into two doses. For more severe infections such as otitis media, sinusitis, and lower respiratory infections like bronchopneumonia and urinary tract infections, amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium is administered at 45 mg/6.4 mg per kg of body weight per day.
The 7:1 syrup is not suitable for children under 2 months of age. The 7:1 syrup is not suitable for pediatric patients with renal failure.
The maximum allowable dose of this medication is established for each day, and care must be taken not to exceed it. The artificial sweetener aspartame included in this medication is converted into phenylalanine in the body, thus patients with phenylketonuria should not take it. Individuals who have allergies or have experienced hypersensitivity reactions to this medication or beta-lactam antibiotics should not use this medication. Particularly, patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia should take care as the risk of skin rash increases when taking this medication. Patients who have experienced liver dysfunction or jaundice due to this medication or penicillin-type drugs in the past should also avoid taking it. This medication contains lactose; therefore, patients with lactose intolerance or galactose metabolism disorders should not take it. Patients with liver dysfunction or moderate to severe renal impairment should use this medication cautiously, and the dosing interval should be extended if necessary. Patients with allergic predispositions or symptoms of asthma and urticaria should also take this medication with caution. If gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea occur, absorption of the medication may be inhibited, so the condition should be checked before taking it. This medication may cause various gastrointestinal side effects, including diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain; if symptoms are severe, the medication should be stopped immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. Liver function abnormalities may occur, especially more frequently in the elderly and males, so regular liver function tests should be conducted for long-term use. If serious skin rash or allergic reactions occur, stop taking the medication immediately and follow the medical staff's instructions. Abnormalities such as leukopenia or thrombocytopenia may rarely appear in blood tests; regular blood tests are required for long-term use. This medication may also affect the kidneys, so kidney function should be checked periodically, and if abnormalities are found, the medication must be stopped immediately. The use of antibiotics may disrupt the normal bacterial balance in the intestines and lead to other infections, so symptoms should be monitored. A tendency to bleed due to vitamin K deficiency may appear, so if bleeding symptoms occur, medical staff should be informed immediately. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform the healthcare provider. It is generally safe to avoid taking this medication during the first three months of pregnancy, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding, it should be taken after consulting a doctor. It is advisable not to use it for premature infants or newborns under 2 months of age as safety has not been established. Elderly patients may have reduced physical function, increasing the risk of side effects, so dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted and taken cautiously. After preparing the medication, it should be refrigerated and consumed within 7 days. In case of overdose, digestive symptoms or renal function abnormalities may occur; hence, if such symptoms arise, immediate medical attention must be sought. Before taking, the medication should be shaken well to ensure uniformity, and if abnormal symptoms occur during use, physicians should be consulted immediately.
