This medication is primarily used to prevent asthma and to provide ongoing treatment for asthma symptoms. It is also effective in alleviating symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It helps improve respiratory health in patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For patients with allergic rhinitis, the dosing time is determined based on the patient's condition. For patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis, take 1 tablet, 1 pack, or 1 sheet once daily in the evening. Adults and adolescents aged 15 and older should take 10 mg of montelukast once daily orally.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which is broken down into phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, it is advisable for patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria not to take this medication. This medication contains lactose, and patients with genetic conditions such as galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. This medication is not intended for use as a treatment for acute asthma attacks; suitable emergency medications should be used when acute symptoms arise. During the course of taking this medication, the dosage of inhaled corticosteroids may be gradually reduced under a doctor's instruction, but corticosteroids should not be replaced abruptly with this medication. Do not use this medication alone for the treatment of bronchospasm induced by exercise; inhaled β-agonists should be used if necessary. Patients with a hypersensitivity to aspirin should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) while on this medication. While taking this medication, serious side effects such as eosinophilia and vasculitis may occur infrequently, so doctors should carefully monitor the patient's symptoms. Pregnant women should only take this medication if it is absolutely necessary, as there is insufficient data on its effects on the fetus, and nursing mothers should exercise caution as well. Safety has been relatively confirmed in children and the elderly, but dosages and administration methods should be determined according to the patient's age under a doctor's direction. There is no specific antidote in case of overdose, so general symptomatic treatment and monitoring are required. This medication is sensitive to light, so do not open the packaging until just prior to consumption, and take it immediately after preparation. Keep it out of reach of children and do not transfer it to another container. This medication should be taken continuously, even if there are no asthma symptoms, and if symptoms worsen, a doctor should be consulted.
