This medication is used to relieve various symptoms associated with colds, including runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, sore throat, cough, phlegm, chills, fever, headache, joint pain, and muscle pain.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Ages 15 and older: 2 capsules three times a day, taken 30 minutes after meals.

Children's dosage

Ages 7 to below 15: 1 capsule three times a day, taken 30 minutes after meals.

Precautions

This medication can be burdensome on the liver; therefore, individuals who regularly consume more than three drinks a day should consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking it. This medication can rarely cause serious skin reactions, so if there are any unusual symptoms such as rash or itching, discontinue use immediately and consult a specialist. It contains acetaminophen, so care should be taken not to exceed the maximum daily dose, and it should not be taken with other acetaminophen-containing medications. It also contains pseudoephedrine, so if serious skin reactions such as pustules or rashes occur, discontinue use and seek medical attention. Individuals with an allergy to this medication or those who have previously taken this or similar medications and experienced respiratory reactions such as asthma should not take it. Children under three months of age, individuals taking certain antidepressants, those with uncontrolled hypertension, and individuals with severe kidney disease should not take this medication. It is safe not to take this medication together with other cold medicines, cough suppressants, antipyretics, or antihistamines while using. In particular, children and elderly individuals, or those with liver, kidney, heart, or thyroid conditions should consult healthcare personnel before use. It is important for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant and nursing mothers to consult a specialist before taking this medication. If unusual symptoms such as rash, itching, nausea, dizziness, or breathing difficulties occur during use, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor or pharmacist. If symptoms do not improve after 5 to 6 doses, seek medical attention from a specialist. Children under 2 years of age should not take this medication and should follow the doctor's instructions if necessary. When taking, strictly adhere to the prescribed dosage and duration and avoid long-term use, as well as refrain from alcohol consumption. Drowsiness may occur while using this medication, so caution is required while driving or operating machinery. If taking this medication along with certain antibiotics or some psychiatric medications, there is a risk of side effects, so consult a specialist.

Serious side effects

  • Hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness → Anaphylactic shock (hypersensitivity shock)
  • Severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, mucosal pain in mouth/eyes → Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis
  • Shortness of breath or breathing difficulty, cough with fever accompanying respiratory abnormalities → Interstitial pneumonia
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme fatigue → Liver dysfunction
  • Thyroid dysfunction

Mild side effects

Rash, redness (hyperemia), itching, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, swelling, difficulty urinating, thirst, dizziness, anxiety, tremors, insomnia, high anion gap metabolic acidosis (HAGMA)

Interactions

Drug interactions

Do not take with oral medications containing cough suppressants, other cold medicines, antipyretics, sedatives, or antihistamines. Do not take this medication if currently on MAO inhibitors or within two weeks of stopping them. Consult a doctor or pharmacist if taking diabetes medications, gout medications, arthritis medications, anticoagulants, steroids, barbiturates, or tricyclic antidepressants.

Food interactions

Do not consume alcohol while taking this medication.
