This medication is used to prevent and provide continuous treatment of asthma. It is also effective in alleviating symptoms caused by seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Thus, it aids in the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dosage for this medication is once daily, with asthma patients taking it in the evening. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosage time is determined according to the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 10 mg once daily in the evening. Adults and adolescents over 15 years old should take montelukast 10 mg orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis and may cause psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts, so if any mental changes occur during use, consult a doctor immediately. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria should avoid it. It contains lactose as well, so patients with galactose intolerance or lactase deficiency should not use it. This medication is not intended for use during acute asthma attacks, so appropriate emergency medications should always be prepared for emergencies. It is advisable not to use aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while taking this medication, especially for patients with aspirin hypersensitivity. This medication can be used in various age groups from children to adults, but safety and efficacy have not been established in infants under 6 months of age. Elderly patients can use it without special precautions, but monitoring may be necessary as responses to the drug may differ. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so general treatment and monitoring are required, and if symptoms are severe, seek medical attention immediately. During treatment, take the medication consistently as directed by your doctor, and do not suddenly stop the medication or change the dosage of other drugs.
