This medication is used for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Once weekly, take 1 tablet (70 mg/2800 IU or 70 mg/5600 IU) in the morning with a sufficient amount of water at least 30 minutes before consuming food, drinks, or other medications. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking and until the first intake of food; this medication should be taken immediately after waking up in the morning.

Child dose

Pediatric and adolescent patients (under 18 years): Safety and efficacy in pediatric and adolescent patients have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the upper gastrointestinal tract, leading to symptoms such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosion, so caution is required during use. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking, and take it with a sufficient amount of water. If any symptoms occur, you should stop taking it immediately and consult your doctor. Patients with diseases that delay esophageal emptying or hypocalcemia, and those who are hypersensitive to this medication should not take it. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal disturbances, abdominal pain, nausea, dyspepsia, diarrhea, musculoskeletal pain, and headaches may occur. Therefore, you should be cautious if any unusual symptoms are present. Particularly, patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease or those currently taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be cautious due to the increased risk of gastrointestinal irritation. If there is insufficient calcium intake, it is advisable to take supplements, and patients at high risk for vitamin D deficiency may require additional vitamin D supplementation. If pregnant or breastfeeding, administration of this medication should be carefully considered, and it is not to be used in children. Severely impaired renal function patients are not recommended to take it, so checking renal function prior to prescription is important. Overdose may lead to symptoms of hypocalcemia and gastrointestinal irritation, so immediate consultation with medical personnel is required. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container.

  • Hives, severe swelling (edema), cold sweat, pallor → severe allergic reaction
  • Severe rash, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/eye mucosa → severe skin adverse reactions
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, breathing problems combined with cough and fever → respiratory issues
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy → liver issues (jaundice)
  • Sudden and very severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, consciousness loss

Mild side effects

Abdominal pain, nausea, dyspepsia, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, acid reflux, esophageal ulcers, vomiting, dysphagia, abdominal distension, gastritis, musculoskeletal (bone, muscle, or joint) pain, muscle cramps, headaches, dizziness, taste disturbance, esophagitis, gastric ulcers, flatulence, pharyngitis, hair loss, itching, rash, angioedema, myalgia

Storage

This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly closed container. Also, it should be stored at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius and protected from direct sunlight.
