Essential Hypertension: Take with water during meals or in between meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time daily (e.g., in the morning). This medication is used to prevent and control hypertension. It is also utilized in the treatment of heart failure patients who have intolerance to ACE inhibitors. Furthermore, it helps reduce the mortality risk in patients with impaired left ventricular function after a myocardial infarction. Therefore, it is used for essential hypertension, heart failure with intolerance to ACE inhibitors, and reduction of mortality risk after myocardial infarction.

How to take

Adult dose

Essential Hypertension: Take with water during meals or in between meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time daily (e.g., in the morning). The recommended oral dose for adults is 80 mg once daily. If blood pressure control is inadequate, the dose may be increased to 160 mg once daily or combined with a diuretic. If necessary, the maximum daily dose may be increased to 320 mg. Elderly patients (75 years or older) should start with 40 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medicine can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with an allergy to this medication or its ingredients, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and patients with severe liver disease or certain kidney diseases should not take this medicine. Elderly patients, those with elevated potassium levels, weakened liver function, or heart or kidney problems should use this medicine with caution, starting at a low dose and gradually increasing. This medicine lowers blood pressure; thus, when first taking the medication or increasing the dosage, there is a risk of temporary low blood pressure leading to dizziness or fainting. Side effects such as headache, dizziness, fatigue, cough, dyspepsia may occur while taking this medicine, and in rare cases, serious allergic reactions, decreased kidney function, or hyperkalemia may occur, necessitating immediate consultation with a healthcare professional if symptoms appear. Particularly, patients with heart failure or after myocardial infarction should regularly check kidney function, and caution should be exercised if taking this medicine with other antihypertensives, diuretics, or potassium supplements as there is an increased risk of side effects due to interactions. If this medication is taken during pregnancy, tests are needed to check the kidney function and skull development of the fetus, and if breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid this medication or discontinue breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children and adolescents under 18 years of age, so it is advisable not to use it. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension or altered consciousness may occur, requiring immediate emergency measures, and it should be stored out of reach of children, not transferred to other containers. While taking this medicine, caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur.
