This medicine is used to treat gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It also helps prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by postoperative ulcers or the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is administered to prevent Mendelson's syndrome before anesthesia. Additionally, it is effective in improving gastric mucosal damage (erosion, bleeding, redness, swelling) associated with acute and chronic gastritis and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. This drug is widely used for various gastrointestinal diseases, protecting the gastric mucosa and aiding in the healing process.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any ingredient in this product. Patients with a history of acute porphyria may experience acute attacks if using this medication, so it should be avoided. Additionally, this product contains lactose and should not be given to patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders. Patients with impaired kidney function should use this medicine cautiously as it may accumulate in the body, requiring a dose reduction or increased dosing interval. Liver function impairment should also be monitored when administering this medication. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to drugs, elderly patients, and those taking NSAIDs should exercise caution while using this medication. Particularly, patients over middle age who present new symptoms of gastric ulcers or dyspepsia should only be administered after excluding the possibility of gastric cancer. This medication should be used in conjunction with antibacterial treatment for gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. During the use of this medication, symptoms such as allergic reactions or shock, blood abnormalities, liver function impairment, cardiac arrhythmias, gastrointestinal symptoms, and neurological symptoms may occur. If any unusual symptoms arise, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a physician. Furthermore, this medication can cause dizziness or drowsiness, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery if such symptoms occur. When using this with other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist as interactions may occur, and especially when used in conjunction with anticoagulants, frequent blood tests are necessary. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should carefully use this medication after consulting with a physician, as its safety has not been established. The safety of this medication in children has not been sufficiently verified, so caution is needed. Elderly patients may have increased blood concentrations due to decreased kidney function; therefore, dose adjustments may be necessary. Store this medication out of reach of children and avoid transferring it to other containers. While overdose symptoms are rare, treatment such as gastric lavage or hemodialysis may be necessary. Finally, this medication may promote bacterial growth in the stomach due to the reduction of gastric acid secretion, thus additional care, such as ophthalmologic examinations, is required with long-term use.
