Precautions

This medication is a macrolide antibiotic, and serious allergic reactions can rarely occur during use, so caution is advised. In particular, if symptoms such as angioedema, anaphylaxis, or severe skin rash occur, treatment should be stopped immediately and medical attention should be sought. Additionally, this medication can rarely cause serious diarrhea or colitis due to Clostridium difficile by altering the intestinal microbiota, so prompt diagnosis and treatment are needed if diarrhea symptoms occur. Patients with hypersensitivity or allergy to macrolide antibiotics should not use this medication, and patients taking ergot alkaloids should also avoid this medication. In patients with significantly impaired kidney function or severe liver disease, the exposure to this medication may increase or pose a risk of liver damage, so it should be administered cautiously. This medication generally has good tolerance, but side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, liver function abnormalities, and rash may occur rarely, and consultation with medical personnel is needed if symptoms arise. Particularly, symptoms such as hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness, and cardiac arrhythmias may occur, so these symptoms should also be monitored carefully. While taking this medication, there is a risk of reinfection, so observation of infection symptoms is necessary. This medication can affect the electrical activity of the heart, thus patients with congenital QT prolongation, heart disease, or electrolyte abnormalities should be especially cautious. Patients with myasthenia gravis may experience worsening symptoms while taking this medication, so consultation with medical personnel is essential. This medication may alter blood concentration when taken with food in some formulations, so it is important to carefully follow dosage instructions. The use of this medication during pregnancy should be limited to cases where its safety for the fetus has not been fully established, and if breastfeeding, careful consideration should be given as some of the drug may be transmitted through breast milk. Elderly individuals may have a higher risk of arrhythmias and should take it as directed by medical personnel. There may be interactions with other medications, so those currently taking other medications should inform medical personnel, particularly with some anticoagulants, immunosuppressants, and cardiac medications caution is needed. In case of overdose, general symptomatic treatment should be administered, and the medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container to prevent misuse or quality degradation.
