This medication helps to prevent and continuously treat asthma. It is also effective in alleviating symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it is used to manage asthma and allergic rhinitis symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 5 mg orally once daily. Asthma patients should take it in the evening, while allergic rhinitis patients should adjust the timing according to their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet in the evening once daily. Administer 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6-14 years should take 5 mg of montelukast once daily by placing it on the tongue and allowing it to dissolve without water. Administer 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medicine contains the artificial sweetener aspartame and should not be used by patients with phenylketonuria, a hereditary disease that restricts phenylalanine intake. This medicine contains lactose, so it should not be administered to patients with hereditary diseases that prevent the digestion of lactose. During treatment with this medicine, various abnormal reactions such as fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, cough, and rash may occur. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a doctor. In rare cases, asthma patients may experience severe symptoms such as vasculitis or eosinophilia; therefore, report any unusual symptoms such as breathing difficulties or skin rashes to a healthcare professional immediately. This medication is not a treatment for acute asthma attacks, so keep a separate emergency medication on hand for acute symptoms. Do not suddenly discontinue inhaled corticosteroids or substitute this medication for them during treatment; adjustments should be made gradually according to a doctor's instructions. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid the use of those medications while taking this drug. If pregnant or breastfeeding, the safety of this medication is not fully established, so it should only be taken after consultation with a physician. The medication can be used in children and the elderly, but dosage adjustments and caution may be necessary according to age. It is important to follow healthcare professional’s instructions. There is no specific antidote for overdose; therefore, visit a medical facility immediately for appropriate treatment and observation. This medication is sensitive to light; do not open the package until right before taking it, and take it immediately after preparation. Store out of reach of children.
